How to save a recipe from a TikTok or Instagram video as clean notes

By GHZ Creative · · 4 min read

Recipes in short videos are quick to watch and slow to cook from. You pause, rewind, squint at a quantity and lose your place with flour on your hands.

Copy the link of the TikTok, Instagram Reel or YouTube video and paste it into getbrief. In a few seconds you get a short brief in Markdown: the method in order, with the quantities and times that were said out loud, which you can copy into any notes app.

Use the short length for a clean list of steps. Use normal when the creator explains why a step matters.

What it keeps and what it misses

A brief is built from what is said. That has a consequence for recipes:

  • Quantities and times said aloud are kept: “six cups of water”, “twelve to twenty-four hours”.
  • Quantities shown only as on-screen text are not read. Many creators write the ingredients as an overlay and never say them.
  • Gestures (“until it looks like this”) are lost.

When a video relies on text overlays, treat the brief as the method and check the ingredient list in the caption or the pinned comment.

Keep your recipes in one place

Every brief you generate while signed in is saved in your history. You can add tags such as dinner or baking, search by words, and copy or download a brief as a Markdown or text file to drop into your own notes. A video that was already briefed with the same settings returns instantly.

Share straight from your phone

On Android, getbrief can be installed as an app and appears in the share menu: share the video from TikTok or YouTube and it opens in getbrief with the link filled in.
